Another man’s death linked to deadly heroin

Police have given another warning to heroin users about batches of the drug containing fatal ingredients. This follows the death of a 43-year-old man in West Yorkshire.

The man, who has not yet been named, was discovered on Sunday, at a house in a village called Fitzwilliam, near Wakefield. At the time of his discovery, he was unresponsive and was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Police believe the dead man may have taken heroin cut with the dangerous drugs, fentanyl or carfentanyl. Both of these substances are far more powerful than regular street heroin.

Another 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death.

Detective Chief Inspector, Stuart Spencer, of West Yorkshire Police, issued a statement, in which he strongly urged regular users of heroin, particularly those who buy their drugs from street suppliers, to exercise extreme caution when making their purchases. The West Yorkshire police issued an earlier warning following several fatalities in the Barnsley, Hull, and Leeds areas of West Yorkshire.

An operation between the police and the National Crime Agency (NCA) last week targeted a west Yorkshire laboratory, suspected of manufacturing fentanyl and carfentanyl. In that raid, carried out in the Morley area of Leeds, six people were arrested and bailed until 16 May. Tony Saggers of the NCA, said, “If you have invested in fentanyl to mix with heroin or other drugs, please stop immediately and reduce the risk that more people will die.”
