Legal highs still on the shelves in Dundee shop

A shop in Dundee has vowed to continue selling legal high drugs despite recent charges being successfully upheld against other shop owners.

It has been confirmed that a man in Arbroath, who was suspected of supplying and trafficking the new psychoactive substances (NPS), has been charged by police as part of Operation Carinate; however, the owner of Just The Thing in Albert Street in Stobswell, who openly sells legal highs, states she will continue to do so.

The shop owner, who has not been named, explained: “This shop has been here for two years now and it will continue to sell them. The police have already been down here taking samples and they found nothing wrong with them. The police aren’t going to get to the bottom of this anyway. Even if they become illegal or close the shops down, they will just be sold on the street.”

The shop owner claims that she does not sell the legal high drugs to minors and refuses to sell to anyone who says they have plans to inject the substances. Just The Thing is now the only shop on Albert Street to be selling legal highs. Two other shops, believed to be owned by the same woman, have closed. One shop now has a new name, while the other has metal shutters over its frontage.

While it is not illegal to sell NPS, Scottish police are investigating whether retailers can be charged with reckless conduct.
