Legal highs being offered on the doorstep

An investigation by the BBC discovered that a firm in Bridgwater provided a door-to-door delivery service for legal high drugs.

An 18-year-old researcher for the BBC went undercover for the investigation and placed a telephone order to the shop ‒ Buzzin ‒ and the legal highs drugs she ordered were delivered to her door. One of the substances was found to contain an ingredient that is suspected to have been linked to several UK deaths. Trading Standards has stated that it is illegal to sell the dangerous substances if the seller knows they will be used for human consumption.

The BBC investigation filmed the undercover researcher placing an order for different legal highs by phone. The seller delivered the order to the researcher by car; however, she had to collect them from the driver of the vehicle in the street. The researcher paid £80 in cash for the legal highs.

The researcher and the driver had a brief exchange, during which the researcher asked whether there was enough in the packets for four people. The driver said there was plenty, as the packets contained three grams of legal highs. When the researcher asked how long the drugs would take to have an effect, the driver replied that they were “not for human consumption”; however, he continued with the sale.

The BBC asked Buzzin to comment after the incident. The request was declined; however, the company claims that it has stopped making out-of-hours deliveries.
