Police make appeal after first drug raid in Lincoln

Police in Lincoln have made an appeal for people to get in touch if they suspect that the substances formerly known as legal highs are being traded in their area.

Earlier this week, Lincolnshire Police raided a flat on Archer Street and arrested two people suspected of dealing in legal highs under the new law regarding psychoactive substances. It was the first time that police in Lincolnshire had had to use their new powers to tackle the supply and distribution of the drugs. The raid was carried out after information was received that the substances were being sold at the premises for £5 a packet. Eight people were present at the time of the raid, but only two people were arrested and later bailed while further investigations are carried out. They were a man aged 36 and a woman aged 30.

The raid was led by Sergeant Paula Gowler. She said, “The use of psychoactive substances is an important issue that the police want to tackle. We were able to act using powers under the new psychoactive substances act. We want people to ring into us if they think there is a problem.”

She added that the use of psychoactive substances is a concern to the general public, as citizens often have to observe users under their influence, while the users themselves can experience serious side effects. This then involves the police who have to call ambulances, and A&E departments who have to treat the users of the substances.
